LUDHIANA: Upset over not getting drugs, a 26-year-old man committed suicide by shooting himself from his father's licensed rifle at
Machiwara on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified Jay Singh, the son of ex-serviceman Jaswinder Singh, who worked as driver.
The family of the deceased told cops that Jay was hooked to drugs and they were encouraging him to shun the addiction. They added that as a result, Jay was confined to the house for past few days.
Police said that Jay’s mother Manpreet Kaur had gone to Anandpur Sahib to take advice of doctors on her son's addiction while his wife and sister had gone to a shrine to pay obeisance. Only Jay's father was at home when he took the extreme step.
Police said that Jay locked himself inside his room by bolting the door and shot himself with the rifle. Hearing the gunshot, his father rushed to his room and broke open the door where he found Jay in a pool of blood.
