BJP leader from Ballia receives extortion call for Rs 10 lakh

VARANASI: While several MLAs of BJP and other politicians reportedly received threatening extortion calls, a ruling party leader from Ballia district and former member of BJP state executive Sushil Kumar Chaurasiya also got a similar call on Wednesday.

He was in Lucknow when he received the calls as well as extortion messages on WhatsApp from a foreign number (+1 (903) 329-4240) to pay Rs 10 lakh. He also received a video call from the extortionist. He lodged an FIR at Hajratganj police station in Lucknow on Thursday.

Chaurasiya, resident of Gadwara area of Ballia district, said that the caller threatened him against dire consequences if he would not pay the amount. The extortionist directed him to pay the amount through Bitcoin. He also sent a Bitcoin ID through WhatsApp message.

The Ballia SP Ariparna Gongulee told TOI over phone that as the FIR has been lodged in Lucknow, the matter is being investigated by the Hajratganj police.
