Thane: Two held with panther skin worth Rs 8 lakh


Thane: The city police arrested two persons and seized panther skin worth Rs 8 lakh from them, an official said today.

Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap near the Check Naka and apprehended the two men yesterday, senior police inspector Jairaj Ranavare, of crime unit V, Wagle Estate, said.

The police recovered a sack from them which contained the panther skin, valued at around Rs 8 lakh, he said. The accused — identified as Mohan Sakate, 29, and Shivdas Pote, 39, both from Baramati in Pune district — were booked under relevant sections of the Wildlife Protection Act, the police added.
