A dog received a close call after a Saskatoon house fire Tuesday night.

The Saskatoon Fire Department said firefighters were called to a home on the 1300 block of Avenue D N. just after 9 p.m. CST. When crews arrived, they saw smoke pouring out of the home's windows.

After putting out the fire, officers searched the home. While they didn't find any people, they found a dog that had passed out.

Using a specially-designed animal mask to give the dog oxygen, firefighters were able to resuscitate the canine.

The dog was brought to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine medical centre for further treatment.

Damage from the fire is estimated at $60,000.
