It looks like Fifa is “Gettin jiggy wit it” this summer after it was reported by Vibe that Will Smith will perform the official song of the 2018 World Cup.
It’s claimed that the Fresh Prince will collaborate with Nicky Jam for the Russia 2018 anthem and The Hollywood Reporter adds that the song will also feature Kosovo singer Era Istrefi and it will be produced by Diplo.
Speaking to Vibe, reggaeton producer DJ Nelson shared the news. He said: “Nicky Jam and Will Smith are producing the new copa de fútbol, they’re doing it together. They’re making this big song and it’s just so crazy.”
American actor Smith, 49, even “teased social media” when he posted a picture of him with Nicky Jam on Instagram. Also tagging @Diplo and @Strefie the caption read: “One Life to Live. Live it Up. #WorldCup.”
CNN contacted Fifa for confirmation of Smith being involved with the World Cup song to which world football’s governing body replied: “Fifa and Sony Music have partnered once more to deliver another exciting official music programme for Fifa World Cup fans worldwide. The line-up of artists and the creative concept behind the 2018 official song will be announced soon.”
Colombian singer Shakira recorded Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) for South Africa 2010 and four years ago in Brazil Pitbull’s We Are One (Ole Ola) featured Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte.
