Samanta addresses House of Lords

Noted educationist and social activist Dr Achyuta Samanta addressed the British Parliamentarians at the House of Lords in London on Tuesday. He was invited for a discourse  to be attended by Members of Parliament and special invitees.

House of Lords member Baroness Prashar introduced Dr Samanta while British Parliamentarian Alam Gamen spoke on the occasion.

Dr Samanta also addressed the Parliamentarians and other dignitaries in Birmingham. On this occasion, India’s Deputy High Commissioner Dinesh Patnaik and Consul General in Birmingham Dr Aman Puri were also present.

The local Odia Association also felicitated Dr Samanta. A ten-member committee under the chairmanship of Uttam Tripathy discussed about construction of a Jagannath temple in the locality with Dr Samanta, who assured them to patronise the move.

Dr Samanta also discussed with the Odia people regarding the ‘Ama Vidyalaya’ initiative of the Odisha Government which they highly appreciated. Twenty of them agreed to develop such schools in their villages in Odisha.

Dr Samanta, a Rajya Sabha member and founder of KIIT and KISS, recounted his past and his experiences in creating a revolution through KIIT and KISS.

He gave a talk on poverty eradication through quality education and connected it with the Sustainable Development Goals of 2030. He said "It's indeed a great honour to address the House of Lords. The story of mega revolution through KIIT and KISS and it's trajectory for the last 26 years are a standalone example for countries to emulate."

Prof Samanta is the first Odia to get this honour of addressing the House of Lords.
