Bus shelters with baby-feeding rooms

30 ultra-modern shelters in the pipeline for Hyderabad

Minister for the Municipal Administration and Urban Development K.T. Rama Rao said 30 air-conditioned modern bus shelters are in the pipeline for the Hyderabad in the coming days.

Mr. Rao launched the city’s first-ever modern air-conditioned bus shelter at Madhapur on Tuesday, and inspected the facilities at the bus shelter.

The Grade-I shelter, as described by GHMC, has facilities such as baby feeding room, toilets, AC, SOS button, food vending kiosks and others.

The exclusive baby feeding room may be used by mothers on the go, and not restricted only to the passengers. The SOS button will alert a command centre in case of emergencies, a press statement informed.

The GHMC has contracted out the construction of 826 bus shelters -- renovation as well as new ones -- to four different agencies on Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer mode.

The shelters are classified into four different grades based on the facilities provided therein. Coffee vending machines, ATMs are additional features of the Grade-I shelters which are WiFi enabled. There will be display of bus timings and routes.

The Grade-II bus shelters which dot the main routes would have a common toilet depending on the space availability and other amenities, while Grade-III and Grade-IV would be inside colonies, the statement said.
