Change in civil services allocation criticised

Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy has condemned the proposed move of the Centre to make changes in the allocation of services to civil services probationers after the foundation course, saying it was against social justice.

Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, Mr. Narayanasamy said, “At present, cadre allocation is done on the basis of marks secured in the UPSC preliminary and main examinations. The NDA government is trying to push its agenda through new changes. There is no need for any change and status quo must be maintained.”

The Chief Minister also condemned the frequent hikes in petrol and diesel prices by the Centre. When the UPA government was in power, the price of petrol was kept at ₹65 per litre based on the international prices of crude oil. However, though the price of crude oil has now come down, the Centre has let the oil companies fix the prices. In Mumbai, the price of petrol was the highest in the country at ₹84 per litre and there is possibility of the price shooting up to ₹100 per litre.

Mr. Narayanasamy said that when there was a slight increase in fuel prices during the UPA rule, the BJP raised a hue and cry over it. The present hike is so exorbitant that it would have a cascading effect on the economy and increase inflation.
