Narendra Modi on Wednesday asked the railways to focus on punctuality of trains and to make the journey safe for passengers.
Sources said during his monthly interaction with secretaries and chief secretaries through web-based PRAGATI initiative, PM observed that the rail journey should not get delayed and every effort must be made to ensure people reach home safely. Ashwani Lohani shared how they have introduced electronic mechanism on railway system to monitor the actual running of the trains, an official said.
Lohani also shared how there is major delay in the running of trains between Mughal Sarai and Delhi, one of the busiest rail lines, because of huge number of trains plying than the actual capacity of the corridor. He added that for railways taking care of nearly 14 lakh employees and keeping them happy is also a big task.
During interaction Modi asked both railways and department of posts to focus on increasing digital transactions across their networks, especially using the BHIM app.
While taking a real time review of the
Char Dham project in Uttarakhand, PM went through the live construction work at three locations at Helang, Srinagar and Bhadrakali in the hill state. The road transport ministry had deployed drones to show real time construction during the PM’s interaction with top officials.
In an official release, the Prime Minister’s Office said, “The 25 PRAGATI meetings so far have seen a cumulative review of 227 projects with a total investment of over Rs 10 lakh crore. Resolution of public grievances has also been reviewed across a range of sectors.”
On Wednesday, he reviewed the progress of nine infrastructure projects in the railway, road, petroleum, and power sectors. These projects are spread over several states including Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
The PM reviewed the progress in implementation of the AMRUT Mission. He also reviewed the programme for end-to-end computerization of Targeted PDS operations, the
PMO said.
