Five days before Becca Kufrin's season of The Bachelorette starts and Arie Luyendyk Jr. gets dragged back into the criticism spotlight for how he dumped her on his Bachelor season finale (he proposed, they were together for a few months, he changed his mind and decided he wanted to be with Lauren Burnham, and blindsided Becca with a camera crew for the breakup), Arie and Lauren are coming out to show that they're happy together.
Arie and Lauren stopped by The View on Wednesday to reveal their wedding plans. But first, the hosts asked some tough questions, bringing up the virulent criticism Arie got, including the billboards insulting him, and why he allowed the breakup to be filmed in the first place. He basically just said he did what he had to do and that he and Lauren are very happy together now. They held hands through the whole interview. Sunny Hostin asked Lauren if she was worried that Arie would change his mind about her like he did with Becca, a really hard question. Lauren looked like she wanted to cry as she said no. Arie risked America hating him to be with her, she said, which proved to her that he's committed to her.
Then the good news: their wedding has been set for January 12 next year in Maui, Hawaii. It'll be a small, private wedding and won't be televised. I wonder if Bachelor creator and Maui resident Mike Fleiss will be there!
Meghan McCain asked why they're announcing the wedding date now as Becca's season ramps up.
"It just happens to be the timing of things," Arie answered. Sure, dude.
Hostin then asked if they've spoken to Becca since the finale. "Maybe," Lauren said. Intriguing! Surprising that it's not a no. Will they be on the show? Another maybe. You'll have to tune in, she said.
But you won't be able to tune in for the wedding, because it won't be on TV.
The Bachelorette premieres Monday, May 28 on ABC.
