Benchmarks hit fresh intraday low

Key benchmark indices extended early losses and hit fresh intraday low in morning trade. At 10:25 IST, the barometer index, the Sensex, was down 66.72 points or 0.19% at 34,584.52. The index was down 41.70 points or 0.40% at 10,495. Negative cues from other Asian shares dampened investors sentiment.

After opening on a positive note, the market declined as the session proceeded. The Sensex rose 16.54 points, or 0.05% at the day's high of 34,667.78 in early trade. The index fell 130.59 points, or 0.38% at the day's low of 34,520.65 in morning trade, its lowest intraday level since 26 April 2018. The Nifty rose 3.15 points, or 0.03% at the day's high of 10,533.55 in early trade. The index fell 55.95 points, or 0.53% at the day's low of 10,480.75 in morning trade, its lowest intraday level since 16 April 2018.

Broader market were trading higher. Among secondary barometers, the Mid-Cap index was up 0.12%. The Small-Cap index was up 0.22%. Both these indices outperformed the Sensex.

The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was positive. On BSE, 1126 shares rose and 844 shares fell. A total of 105 shares were unchanged.
