HSHDB to sign 3 MoUs for rejuvenation of Saraswati river

Haryana Saraswati Heritage Development Board (HSHDB) and Irrigation and Water Resources Department, Haryana will sign three Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) for the investigation of Palaeo-channel, study of hydrological aspects and geomorphological studies relating to Saraswati river rejuvenation and heritage development projects.

The MoUs will be signed on May 23m said a spokesman of HSHDB.

The spokesman said that the MoUs to be signed included MoU between Haryana Sarasvati Heritage Development Board and Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Hyderabad for Saraswati Palaeochannel study in Haryana with development of web GIS portal.

An MoU between the Board and Irrigation and Water Resources Department and National Institute of Hydrology (NIH) pertains to hydrological aspects of Saraswati river rejuvenation and heritage development project, said he.

Another MoU between HSHDB and Geological Survey of India (GIS), Government of India is related to geomorphological and sedimentological studies in parts of Yamuna-Satluj interfluve to reconstruct the fluvial history of the palaeochannels of ancient Saraswati river, added the spokesman.

Making efforts to convert mythology into reality for the people of the state since it came to power in Haryana, the BJP led State Government had constituted HSHDB in 2015 with an objective to initiate, promote and support research in the field of Saraswati heritage and also, to assist in its preservation and restoration of the mythological river.

The Saraswati, considered sacred in Hindu religion, finds mention in ancient Hindu scriptures like the Rig Veda, Mahabharata, Ramayana and others, giving credence to the belief that it existed during those times.
