Ganjam OBC body demands 27% quota

A meeting of the Odisha Pachhua Barga Bikash Manch, Ganjam district unit, was held under the chairmanship of district president Prabhakar Sahu here on Tuesday.

The members alleged that the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the other States have been getting more than 27 per cent reservation, but in Odisha they are getting only 11.25 per cent. In the education sector, the OBC students are totally deprived of reservation in the State, they alleged.

Sahu demanded that the State Government provide 27 per cent reservation for the OBCs. He noted that even after repeated reminders, the demand is yet to be fulfilled.

The Manch threatened that if the demands are not met with 15 days, the student and youth unions would jointly take to streets in coming days.

Among others, Manch State president Pitabash Sethi, district women leader Sabita Sahukar, youth president Hiralal Pradhan, E Apana Reddy, Bansidhar Nayak, Bhisma Chariya Chaudhury, Dr Chandramani Swain, Pramod Moharana, B Srinivas and M Venkat were present.
