The unit today said a "warlike situation" was prevailing along the

International Border and Line of Control in the state as heavy shelling and firing from across the border claimed 12 lives so far.

In a major decision recently, the Centre had asked the security forces not to launch operations in during the holy month of Ramzan.

Heavy shelling and firing from across the border since May 15 has resulted in the death of 12 persons, including two BSF jawans. Many others were injured and scores of border dwellers had to flee their homes.
