KOLKATA: On the third day of the heart transplant, doctors saw more signs of improvement in
Dilchand Singh who underwent the surgery on Monday. His condition is stable. His diet was switched from only liquid to semi solid in addition to fruit juice. He has been breathing on his own without any oxygen support from Tuesday morning. His blood parameters too are normal.
“Blood pressure supporting drugs are also being tapered down. We are taking all precautions so that he does not contact an infection,” said a doctor in the hospital.
The 39-year-old from Jharkahhad underwent
Eastern India’s first heart transplant surgery on Monday at Fortis Anandapur. He was put off the ventilation from Tuesday morning. Doctors are satisfied with the pace of improvement in the patient.
On Wednesday, other family members including Singh’s son Manmohan arrived from Jharkhand. The son was allowed to meet the father in the evening. The family is happy seeing the rapid improvement.
Doctors, however, said that Singh needs constant monitoring at least for two more days during which he will be in kept in isolation.
