Noted educationist and social worker, Achyuta Samanta addressed the British parliamentarians at the House of Lords, UK on May 22, 2018. Samanta was invited for a discourse attended by Members of Parliament and special invitees.
Baroness Prashar, Member, House of Lords, introduced Samanta while British parliamentarian Alan Gemmell spoke on the occasion. Samanta also addressed Parliamentarians and other dignitaries at Birmingham. On this occasion, Dinesh Patnaik, Deputy High Commissioner and Dr. Aman Puri, Consul General of India, Birmingham were also present. The Odia Association felicitated Samanta. A ten-member committee under the chairmanship of Uttam Tripathy discussed about construction of Jagannath temple with Samanta. He assured them to patronise the temple construction. Samanta discussed with the Odia people regarding the ‘Mo School’ initiative of Odisha government. The Odia people highly appreciated the initiative of Odisha government and twenty of them agreed to develop the schools in their villages in Odisha.
The Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha and Founder of KIIT and KISS recounted his past and his experiences at creating a revolution through KIIT and KISS. He gave a talk on poverty eradication through quality education and connected it with Sustainable Development Goals of 2030.
Samanta said, “It’s indeed a great honour to be addressing the parliamentarians at the House of Lords. The story of mega revolution through KIIT and KISS and it’s trajectory for the last 26 years stands as a standalone example for countries to emulate.” Samanta is the first Odia to get this honour of delivering address at the House of Lords.
