Premier League transfer news and rumours

Rivaldo: Neymar must go to Real or England

Brazil legend Rivaldo says if Neymar wants to win the Ballon d’Or then he must move to Real Madrid or to a team in the Premier League.

Former Barcelona star Neymar is currently playing for Paris Saint-Germain in France but has been linked with Real and Manchester United.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have dominated the Ballon d’Or for the past ten seasons, each of them winning five times, with Neymar finishing third on two occasions (2015 and 2017).

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Rivaldo said: “I think that going to Real Madrid, or to some club in England, I think he will have more chances [of winning the Ballon d’Or].

“I mean no offence, but we know that the French league is not the same as the Spanish or English league, where there’s more difficulty.

“I think he [Neymar] would have more chances to win the Champions League, so... when a player wins the Champions League, he has more chances of being the best in the world.”

Toure: I want to teach Pogba

Yaya Toure wants to play alongside Manchester United star Paul Pogba “just to teach him some things”. The Ivory Coast international left Manchester City this month but do his comments about Pogba mean he could switch to United? He said: “No, no, no, no. The fans are going to kill me!” (Manchester Evening News)

Carrick: Pogba has United future

Former Manchester United captain and now club coach Michael Carrick says that Paul Pogba has a future at Old Trafford. The French midfielder is reportedly unsettled at United after falling out with boss Jose Mourinho, but Carrick said: “Of course he’s got a future, he’s a big player for us, he’s a great age, he’s got his peak years ahead of him. It’s not even something I’d give a second thought to, to be honest.” (Sky Sports)

Matthijs de Ligt: Ajax to Manchester City

Pep Guardiola is also “keeping a close eye” on teenage Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt. The Dutchman has also been linked with Tottenham, but City boss Guardiola may make a move because the 18-year-old “fits the bill” as a long-term replacement for captain Vincent Kompany. (The Guardian)

Alvaro Morata: Chelsea to AC Milan

AC Milan have held talks with Chelsea about signing Alvaro Morata. The Spanish striker has been linked with a return to Milan’s Italian rivals Juventus, but Milan have made their initial move for a potential summer deal. (Daily Mail)

United won’t sell Martial to English rivals

Manchester United will “listen to offers” for Anthony Martial, but will not sell the Frenchman to a rival team in the Premier League. The forward, 22, is reportedly wanted by Tottenham and Chelsea. (Daily Mail)

Danny Welbeck: Arsenal to Besiktas

Turkish club Besiktas have been linked with a move for Arsenal’s Danny Welbeck. The 28-year-old former Manchester United striker is being lined up by Besiktas to replace Talisca, who returns to Benfica after a two-year loan spell. (talkSPORT)
