Five takeaways from Chennai Super Kings’ marvelous win over Sunrisers Hyderabad

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 2 wickets yesterday in first qualifiers match at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. CSK defeated the SRH in a hard fought match which saw no batsman from both the teams being able to bat easily. Batting first, SRH could not bat well and was able to make only 139 runs. CSK also faced a lot of difficulties as its top order batsmen lost their wickets early but the rocking performance of Faf du Plessis pushed the victory in CSK’s pocket. Here are the five takeaways from CSK’s marvelous win over SRH

Failure of SRH’s top order

SRH’s might in the IPL 2018 has been their amazing form of top order batsmen. Shikhar Dhawan, Shreevats Goswami and Kane Williamson have shown a great performance throughout the league but yesterday they were not able to show their batting skills. Shikhar Dhawan got out on a duck and Shreevats Goswami was able to make only 12 runs. Kane Williamson started well but he got out on the score of 24. Due to this, SRH were 36/3 after 4.2 overs.

Carlos Brathwaite quick knock of 43

While all the top order and middle order batsmen of SRH failed to perform yesterday, their batting saw a great support by Carlos Brathwaite who smashed a quick 43 off 29 balls in the end. He smashed four sixes in his innings and turned his teams’ batting performance in the last 3 overs, otherwise SRH would have remained on a score of less than 120 runs.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s first over

After making a low score of 139, SRH wanted a great start in the second innings to accelerate their confidence of winning the match. This was provided by Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s first over. He bowled a mixture of in-swings and out-swings to attack the opening batsman Shane Watson. Shane Watson faced a lot of difficulties in facing Bhuvneshwar’s balls and he eventually gave up his wicket in the first over at the score of zero. CSK lost their first wicket before making their first run, and that was a big inspiring moment for SRH.

Siddarth Kaul hat trick chance

While SRH could not give a good batting performance yesterday, they showed a marvelous bowling performance. At start, Shane Watson was out for a duck in the first over itself. Later, Siddarth Kaul took two back to back wickets in the fourth over. First, he bowled out Suresh Raina by hitting his leg stumps on the third ball, and also took next batsman Ambati Rayudu’s wicket. Rayudu was bowled out on his very first ball which was a yorker. Although, Kaul could not get a hat trick, he was the key bowler who crushed the CSK’s batting.

Faf du Plessis’s innings

While all the batsmen of Chennai Super Kings failed to perform yesterday, the innings of opener Faf du Plessis was outstanding. He came out at the crease first and did not left the field until he brought victory for his team. He kept his wicket safe and smashed great shots in the end to make 67 off 42 balls.
