IOWA CITY — After a long and hard battle, Iowa City High propels onward after beating Linn-Mar, 3-0, Wednesday night in the Class 3A boys’ soccer substate semifinals.
No. 4 City High (14-4) put the pressure on Linn-Mar (8-9) early in the game and didn’t let up. Ethan teDuits scored the first goal of the game by sending a quick shot past Linn-Mar goalkeeper Seth Lukefahr. The goal seemed to ignite a fire among the team.
“The win feels great,” teDuits said. “Now we move on from here and on to state.”
Miguel Sola quickly tacked another goal after playing off a blocked shot by fellow teammate John Clark.
City High blasted a total of 18 shots, with eight of those shots being on goal.
Up 2-0, City High started the second half with the same energy as the first. Adam Engelbrecht booted a long shot to the far end of the goal, putting the Little Hawks up 3-0.
Along with his goal, Engelbrecht also collected an assist.
“I think the guys did a great job,” City High Head Coach Jose Fajardo said. “We kept them away from the ball most of the game and were able to get a few goals in.”
City High will take on Ottumwa on Saturday in Iowa City for the substate title.
