91st security forces commander at MAFB relieved of duties amid weapons mishaps

MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. – Col. Colin Connor, commander of the 91st Missile Wing at Minot Air Force Base, has relieved his Security Forces Group commander of duties following a pair of incidents involving lost or misplaced weaponry.

Col. Jason Beers was relieved of his duties Wednesday, according to the base public affairs office. Beers was responsible for training the security forces and equipping them to secure the 150 Minuteman III missiles and launch facilities.

Beers’ dismissal comes amid an investigation after a can of grenades reportedly fell off of truck traveling between missile silos near Parshall, N.D., earlier this month. Then, last week, base officials reported an unaccounted-for M-240 machine gun following a routine weapons check.

To date, neither the grenades nor the machine gun have been found.

The incidents prompted the Air Force Global Strike Command in Barksdale, La., to order a command-wide inventory of weapons that spanned eight bases.

We are speaking with base officials to learn who will take over as security forces leader, and will have more information as it becomes available.
