‘Rights of differently-abled should be protected’

The differently-abled persons have the rights to live in dignity and their interest should be protected at all costs. They shouldn’t be made to feel neglected by others of the society, said speakers at a function here organised to welcome the ‘Samarth Chariot’ here.

They further said that the differently-abled persons would be given Rs 500  per month as stipend by the Government. Besides, all would be identified and registered by a special drive and for them a data base would be created across the State. They would be given proof of their disability percentage through on line application, they added.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Subasini Jena and attended by Smruti Mohapatra and several other dignitaries.

Baleswar MP RK Jena while attended the meeting as chief guest ,  Sadar MLA JP Dash, Baleswar Municipality Chairman Alok Sahu, district Collector Ramesh Chandra Rout, Sub Collector Sadar Nilu Mohapatra , district social security officer Kamlakanta Mahapatra  were among others  present.

The speakers mentioned about various rights of the physically challenged persons (Divyangs) mandated by the Constitution. They also stressed on the protection of their rights.

For the vulnerable section, separate provisions should be made in all places including rail station, bus-stands, shopping malls, Government and private workplaces and separate toilets and wash rooms should be made. Under no circumstances, should they feel neglected and  harassed,” opined Subasini Jena.
