If you have seen Judi Dench-Ali Fazal-starrer Victoria and Abdul, you are likely to remember the scene where Abdul Karim aka Ali inspects the mangoes sent as a gift from India to Queen Victoria (played by Judi Dench) and finds them rotten. Ali has now sent fresh Alphonso mangoes as his special gift Judi.

On screen, Ali’s character wanted his Queen to try the mango in its perfect form. As an ode to his friendship with the British actor, Ali had the sweetest gesture for his co-star as he packed and sent across mangoes for Judi and got it delivered to her residence in London.

Speaking about his gesture, Ali said in a press statement, “Queen Victoria never tasted a mango from India. It used to go off by the time it would arrive in England. So I sent a few to My Queen - Judi. She loved them. Thanks to the timely help of my dear friend, Jagdish Rajpurohit , who sent them from his own farm. Fresh and home-grown. I guess Judi likes mangoes. I personally love mangoes. I think it is rightfully the queen of all fruit. My grandfather and I used to wait for the season. And he taught me how to pick the mangoes.”

A British biographical comedy-drama, Victoria and Abdul was nominated for Best Costume Design and Best Makeup and Hairstyling at the 90th Academy Awards, and Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) at the 75th Golden Globe Awards.

Ali was last seen in Richa Chadha's Fukrey Returns in Bollywood and will soon begin work on Sanjay Dutt, Amyra Dastur-starrer Prasthanam remake.
