PALM COAST — There were tense moments May 17 after one driver threatened another driver he mistakenly believed had honked his horn at him at a stoplight.

According to a Flagler County Sheriff's Office report, a man (Driver 1) was southbound on Belle Terre Parkway and stopped at a red light. When the light turned green, the driver of the car behind Driver 1 honked the horn, but the driver of the SUV in front of Driver 1 made an obscene gesture, apparently believing it was Driver 1 who had honked.

The SUV driver then followed Driver 1 to a gas station, approached the car and knocked on the driver's window. Driver 1, who later told deputies he feared for his life, reportedly pulled out a pocket knife. In return, the SUV driver pulled up his shirt to show a handgun tucked into his waistband and he threatened to shoot Driver 1.

The SUV driver left, and Driver 1 ran inside the gas station office and asked employees to call 9-1-1. Deputies were unable to view security video of the incident at the time. No arrests were made.
