Thane: A 25-year-old driver of a container truck was trapped inside the mangled remains of the heavy vehicle for almost an hour after his truck rammed onto another heavy vehicle ahead on the busy Ghodbunder Road. The incident took place on Tuesday at around 4.30am near Anand Nagar junction on the Thane-bound lane.
Officials claimed that Shaukat Ali, the driver, who was commuting from Aligarh to Mumbai had been cruising at a great speed and was unable to slow down near the signal, resulting in the crash.

A team of fire brigade and the regional disaster management cell (RDMC) reached the spot immediately with one rescue vehicle and an ambulance. However, the rescue operators found it difficult to reach out to the youngster as his lower half of the body was trapped inside the truck cabin.

An official from RDMC said, “We couldn’t help the driver easily. Since he was unable to move even an inch, we had to cut open the vehicle and pull him out. He had grievously injured his legs.” He added that the cleaner has also sustained minor injuries.
