BENGALURU: Karnataka’s Chief Electoral Officer Sanjiv Kumar has clarified that boxes carrying VVPATs found in Managuli village of Basavana Bagewadi taluk in Vijayapura district did not belong to the Election Commission (EC).

“Eight VVPAT-carrying cases were found in a temporary shed. But they had no machines and papers and lacked the unique electronic tracking number too. This must have been dumped just to create confusion. We will initiate strict action against those who are trying to create confusion,” Kumar said.

Kumar also said no VVPAT machines were found at the spot when the deputy commissioner and the superintendent of police personally visited the site and conducted inspection.

On Tuesday, BS Yeddyurappa had written to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), alleging ‘grave irregularities’ in the Karnataka assembly elections, citing the Managuli incident.
