NEW DELHI: Shares of Mahanagar Gas cracked almost 8 per cent to touch its 52-week low of 776.60 on BSE in Tuesday's trade, despite the company reported a growth in profit for the March quarter.

The CNG retailer reported on Monday a 5 per cent rise in its March quarter net profit to Rs 104.76 crore, a little better than what it had earned during the same period of the previous fiscal.

The company had a net profit of Rs 99.47 crore in the same period of the previous fiscal, PTI reported.

Shares of the company were trading 7.38 per cent down at Rs 779 around 10:25 am.

Equity benchmarks moved up on buying in select bank, financial and auto stocks amid mixed global cues.

The NSE Nifty index was trading 33 points up at 10,550, while the BSE Sensex was 97 points up at 34,713 around 10:25 am.

In the Sensex index, 20 stocks were in the green and 11 were in the red.

Bajaj Auto, Dr Reddy's Labs and Larsen & Toubro were trading as the top Sensex gainers.

Adani Ports and TCS, however, were the top losers in the Sensex pack.
