Journalist committed suicide; confirms SP Plamu

Journalist Rameshwar Keshri’s death is due to ante mortem hanging leading to asphyxia,” said SP Palamu Indrajeet Mahatha on Monday who quoted straight from the post mortem findings of a three-doctor team consisting of S K Pathak Rajesh Kumar and Vijay Kumar Singh.

The SP said that the journalist hanged himself to death. But without any pause he also added that there was the abetment to his suicide and this abetment came from Mamta Devi sahiya of community health centre Bishrampur where Keshri was a trainer. Mahtha said Mamta Devi has been arrested, remanded in judicial custody on Monday under section 306 which is abetment to suicide of IPC. On the whole episode SP said there was intimate relationship between Keshri a married man and Mamta Devi a married woman too.  There was a huge emotional bond between the two as it was Keshri who had secured the job of sahiya to Mamta Devi in 2009 and since then Mamta Devi and Keshri were in love with each other.  It was he who used to take her around for training etc. Their families knew this love. The village knew this love. And they two lived in utter chaos  as none of the two sides were having any integrity, said SP.

On May 16 there was the burst of emotions between the two said SP quoting Mamta Devi who has unfolded the case blow by blow as said by SP. Keshri was severely emotionally upset and he wanted to prove his love for her and he chose to die for her by hanging himself to death said SP again alluding to Mamta Devi’s version that she gave to the police.

If Mamta Devi ever tried to save Keshri SP again quoted her saying that she did which she could.

She straightened his legs. She tried to untie the knot but failed. She was not in the room when Keshri got himself hanged. Her child was then outside who gave a cry and the mother Mamta Devi ran out of the room to find what happened to her child and then again came to the CHC room only to find Keshri dead and hanging by then.

There were 473 calls between Mamta and Keshri in 15 days . On May 16 morning there were exchange of calls between the two said SP. Keshri had asked her to come to CHC which Mamta Devi obliged off course a bit late and then she gave a call to keshri to come over there added SP. Keshri too had given her gift of cell phone and sim card issued in his name. Mamta Devi had reciprocated with a hanky to Keshri with M written on it.

Keshri’s wife had named accused 5 of murder but the police zeroed in on just one Mamta Devi on charge of abetting Keshri to suicide. The SP was said in his press briefing there would come a volley of questions in this regard and he would answer them all.  He said  an emotional turbulence, uncontrolled passion and dark desire to prove love beyond all limit forced Keshri to end his life himself.
