‘K’jhar Bhuyan community neglected’

| | CHAMPUA | in Bhubaneswar

The Bhuyan community is the second largest among all the primitive communities living in Keonjhar district. But due to lack of education, blind belief and habit of drinking alcohol, the primitive tribal community is the most neglected, lamented speakers at the 5th annual Bhuyan meeting held at Jajanga panchayat under Joda block on Sunday.

They opined that in order to bring a change in their lifestyle, emphasis must be laid on education, prohibition of liquor and marriage reform. Instead of escorting a bride groom with hundreds, only one or two should accompany her, they said, with a clear view to curb unnecessary expenses in social functions like marriage.

The guests who spoke on the occasion include MLA Abhiram Nail, Zila Parishad Member Basudev Nail, Joda block Chairman Sukumari Dehury, Indumani Naik, Nirupama Naik and Kamala Naik, Sarapanchs of Jajanga, Palasa and Balada, respectively. Former Chairman, Joda block, Giridhari Naik and Member of State Adivasi Development Committee Giridhari Naik were also present.
