The New Philadelphia City Schools Quaker Foundation in conjunction with the New Philadelphia City Schools Board of Education awarded 84 scholarships at its Annual Recognition Banquet held at the Kent State Tuscarawas Performing Arts Center on May 4.

One of the goals of the Quaker Foundation is to provide scholarships to deserving students and this year’s recipients share in $138,000 worth of scholarship money. Forty-five percent of the graduating class received scholarships. Also honored at the event were NPHS alumni: Richard D. Geib II, Class of 1970, Alumnus of the Year for Lifetime Contribution; Robert Metzger, Class of 1999, Alumnus of the Year — Previous Scholarship Recipient; Kevin C. Moore, Class of 2001, Alumnus of the Year for Special Achievement; and Jerry N. Bichsel, Class of 1953, Alumnus of the Year for Distinguished Service. New Philadelphia High School teachers, Kip Brady and Cheryl A. Graham, were presented with the annual Dr. William J. and Mae Hurst Jackson Awards for Distinguished Teaching.

Scholarship recipients were:

n Tess Affolter, daughter of Dave and Shelly Affolter of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Zachary Frantz Memorial Leadership Scholarship for $4,000. Tess plans to attend The Ohio State University and pursue a career in biology/pre-med.

n Aaron Albaugh, son of Mike and Carol Albaugh of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Peggy and John Stratton Vocational/Technical Scholarship for $2,000. Aaron plans to attend Stark State College and pursue a career in computer networking.

n Cameron Alberts, son of Travis and Kelli Alberts of New Philadelphia is the recipient of the Judge John Howard Lamneck and Bertha Caroline (Thomas) Lamneck and George Richard McIntosh and Martha (Lamneck) McIntosh Honorary/Quaker Foundation Scholarship for $1,000. Cameron plans to attend Heidelberg University and pursue a career in education.

n Caitlin Ames, daughter of Tim and Robin Ames of New Philadelphia is the recipient of the Thelma Schwartz Family/Quaker Foundation Vocational Scholarship for $1,000. Caitlin plans to attend Kent State University, Tuscarawas and pursue a career in nursing.

n Alanis Amick, daughter of William B. Amick and Amanda Brinkman of New Philadelphia is the recipient of the Chip Graham Memorial Scholarship for $1,500. Alanis plans to attend Kent State University and pursue a career in theater production/music education.

n Jacob Andrews, son of Rick and Erica Andrews of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Bruce M. and Thelma K. Hostetler Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Jacob plans to attend the University of Kentucky and pursue a career in engineering.

n Rowena Asman, daughter of Purity Manundu and Timothy Jackson of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of a Jerry Johnson Memorial Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Rowena is undecided on the college she will attend. She plans to pursue a career in biology.

n Douglas Bailey, son of Douglas and Diana Bailey of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the James and Kay Patrick Family Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Douglas plans to attend either Kent State University or the University of Akron and pursue a career in medicine.

n Trinity Bailey, daughter of Shannon and Mistey Bailey of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Daniel G. Sturtz Memorial Academic Scholarship for $1,000. Trinity plans to attend Kent State University, Tuscarawas and pursue a career in early childhood education.

n Drew Beitzel, son of Rob and Annette Beitzel of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Linda Dembowski Stiles-LaGamba Leadership Scholarship for $1,500. Drew plans to attend the University of Akron and pursue a career in chemical engineering.

n Joseph Boose, son of Jim and Julie Boose of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Brent and Jenny Morgan Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Joseph plans to attend Bowling Green State University and pursue a career in communications and sports management.

n Alexander Brown, son of Bob and Tara Brown of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the NPHS Class of 1962 Academic Scholarship for $2,000. Alexander plans to attend Shawnee State University and pursue a career in computer programing.

n Emily Burnworth, daughter of Mark and Heather Burnworth of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Robert W. and Maxine King Mitchell, Phil W. King, Ruth Mitchell Peoples, Gladys Mitchell Adams, and Charles H. Mitchell Memorial Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Emily plans to attend Kent State University, Tuscarawas and pursue a career in psychology.

n Kari Cargnel, daughter of Mike and Jill Cargnel of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Hodder/Williams Memorial/Quaker Foundation Scholarship for $1,000. Kari plans to attend Malone University and pursue a career in early childhood education.

n Ty Carpenter, son of John and Stephanie Carpenter of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the NPHS Class of 1962 Academic Scholarship for $3,000. Ty plans to attend The Ohio State University and pursue a career in computer science.

n Kye Crowthers, son of Chad Crowthers of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Jim Thompson Memorial Basketball Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Kye plans to attend Kent State University, Tuscarawas and pursue a career in nursing.

n Lauren Davis, daughter of Bob and Shonda Davis of New Philadelphia, is the recipient the Hank and Chuck Porterfield Science Scholarship for $2,000. Lauren plans to attend Kent State University and pursue a career in environmental science.

n Krista Delatore, daughter of Christopher and Andrea Delatore of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Quaker Foundation Academic Scholarship for $1,000. Krista plans to attend Ohio University and pursue a career in nursing.

n Mazen Diab, son of Mohamed Diab and Maria Mohamed of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the John and Orlena Marsh Foundation Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Mazen plans to attend Kent State University, Tuscarawas and pursue a career in pre-med.

n Farryn Dummermuth, daughter of Justin Dummermuth of Stone Creek, is the recipient of a Jerry Johnson Memorial Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Farryn plans to attend the University of Mount Union and pursue a career in biomedical engineering.

n Storm Elsesser, son of Keith and Shelly Elsesser of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the First Federal Community Bank Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Storm is undecided on the college he will attend. He plans to pursue a career in accounting/business.

n Gabriel Ernest, son of Mike and Beth Ernest of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Keith V. Nepsa Memorial/Quaker Foundation Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Gabriel plans to attend John Carroll University and pursue a career in law.

n Emily Everett, daughter of Jim and Darla Everett of New Philadelphia is the recipient of a Jerry Johnson Memorial Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Emily plans to attend Ashland University and pursue a career in early childhood education.

n Cade Gasser, son of Danielle Ryan and Steve Gasser of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Linda Dembowski Stiles-LaGamba Vocational Scholarship for $1,500. Cade plans to attend Stark State College and pursue a career in civil engineering/surveying.

n Taryn Goudy, daughter of Terry and Kim Goudy of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of a Peggy and John Stratton Leadership Scholarship for $1,500. Taryn plans to attend The Ohio State University and pursue a career in statistics.

n Rachel Gursal, daughter of Alan Gursal and Mary Lilko of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Charles and Lucille Edie Memorial Scholarship for $4,000. Rachel plans to attend The Ohio State University and pursue a career in biology/chemistry/pre-med.

n Quinn Hadley, son of Jamie and Lisa Hadley of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of a Peggy and John Stratton Leadership Scholarship for $1,500. Quinn plans to attend Kent State University, Tuscarawas and pursue a career in mechanical engineering.

n Jillian Hammary, daughter of Chuck and Leigh Hammary of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Richard L. Stephenson Memorial Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Jillian plans to attend Kent State University and pursue a career in computer information systems.

n Laurel Harstine, daughter of Greg and Michelle Harstine of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the W.V. and Elizabeth W. Buchanan Memorial Academic Scholarship for $1,000. Laurel plans to attend the University of Akron and pursue a career in psychology.

n Nicholas Henning, son of Rob and Lori Henning of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Bill and Jody Weisgarber/Tuscarawas Insurance Agency Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Nicholas plans to attend the University of Akron and pursue a career in nursing.

n Cody Herman, son of Jon and Susan Herman of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of a Peggy and John Stratton Leadership Scholarship for $1,500. Cody plans to attend Notre Dame College and pursue a career as a wildlife officer.

n Brock Horn, son of Jeff and Deanna Horn of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Max T. Miller & Family Vocational/Technical Scholarship for $4,500. Brock plans to attend The Ohio State University, ATI at Wooster and pursue a career in agronomy.

n Mikayla Horn, son of Jerry II. and Melissa Horn of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the New Philadelphia Rotary Club Leadership Scholarship for $2,500. Mikayla plans to attend Ashland University and pursue a career in nursing.

n Madison Incarnato, daughter of Troy and Kim Incarnato of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Dean F. and Gladys A. Coutts Memorial Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Madison plans to attend West Virginia University and pursue a career in psychology and forensics.

n Kaitlin Jagunic, daughter of Dave and Jennifer Jagunic of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Michael Briggs Memorial Leadership Scholarship for $1,500. Kaitlin plans to attend Kent State University and pursue a career in special education.

n Veronica Jeffers, daughter of John Jeffers and Rose and Robert Alan Edwards of Newcomerstown, is the recipient of the Past Scholarship Recipients Academic Scholarship for $1,000. Veronica plans to attend Delaware County Community College and pursue a career in forensic psychology.

n Josh Kaiser, son of Heather Poloisky and Greg Kaiser of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Janet Sue Walters Engelhart Memorial Academic Scholarship for $7,000. Josh plans to attend The Ohio State University and pursue a career in biochemistry.

n Maxwell Kendall, son of Mitch and Kiley Kendall of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Max T. Miller & Family Leadership Scholarship for $4,500. Max plans to attend The Ohio State University and pursue a career in industrial and systems engineering.

n Danielle Serban, daughter of Daniel and Amy Serban of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Donald W. and Mary L. Zimmerman Family/Quaker Foundation Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Danielle plans to attend Kent State University and pursue a career in exercise science.

n Hannah Slagle, daughter of Rob and Nicole Slagle of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Previous Recipients of the Alumnus of the Year Award Academic Scholarship for $1,000. Hannah plans to attend Kent State University and pursue a career in early childhood education.

n Jarett Smith, son of Bobby and Shawna Smith of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Kay Stratton Memorial Leadership Scholarship for $2,000. Jarett plans to attend Kent State University and pursue a career in nursing.

n Patricia Snyder, daughter of Robert and Karen Snyder of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of a Peggy and John Stratton Leadership Scholarship for $1,500. Patricia plans to attend Kent State University, Tuscarawas and pursue a career in early childhood education.

n Salina Soto, daughter of Chris and Sabrina Bailey of Dover, is the recipient of the Gary Wayne “Sam” Miller Memorial Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Salina plans to attend The Ohio State University, Newark and pursue a career in radiology/ultrasound technology.

n Psalm Steffen, daughter of Bill and Amber Steffen of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Mary Rebecca Weaver Page Memorial/Quaker Foundation Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Psalm plans to attend Bowling Green State University and pursue a career in forensic science.

n Quenton Stillion, son of Tim and Michelle Stillion of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the James D. Short Memorial/Quaker Foundation Scholarship for $1,000. Quenton plans to attend Ohio Northern University and pursue a career in secondary education.

n Yuliza Velasquez-Ortiz, daughter of Cruz Velasquez and Cirila Ortiz of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Phil and Molly Doughten Family Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Yuliza plans to attend Kent State University, Tuscarawas and pursue a career in speech pathology.

n Jelani Walker, son of Gary and Cheryl Walker of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Susan Stratton Smith Memorial Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Jelani plans to attend Kent State University and pursue a career in sports management.

n Andrew Wise, son of Sam and Kay Wise of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Donna Stephenson Berndt Memorial Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Andrew plans to attend The Ohio State University and pursue a career in political science.

n Sydney Young, daughter of Scott and Shay Young of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the John P. and Mary I. Baab Family Accounting/Business Scholarship for $1,000. Sydney plans to attend Kent State University and pursue a career in business management.
