Low-paid company founders such as Larry Page and Mark Zuckerberg drag down the sector’s median pay

The highest-paid software executive of 2017? That was Gary Norcross, chief executive of Fidelity National Information Services Inc., at $29.1 million.

Fidelity National, also known as FIS, is a bank-technology provider. Mr. Norcross has led the Jacksonville, Fla.-based company since January 2015. His total compensation increased 46% from $20 million the previous year, according to regulatory filings. The company’s total shareholder return, which reflects shares price and dividends, was 26% last year.
