ORIGINAL: H1Z1 is coming to the PS4 soon with the release date and start time for when the servers unlock fast approaching.
H1Z1 has been dubbed by developers Daybreak as “the original standalone battle royale game”.
It launched back in January 2015 on Steam in early access and this year was fully released on PCs, becoming free-to-play soon afterwards.
H1Z1 is now set for its first console release with the battle royale game arriving on the PS4 thanks to an open beta starting tomorrow (Tuesday May 22).
The battle royale game was in closed beta testing last week but from tomorrow will be free to download for everyone.
From midnight local time on Tuesday May 22, players in different regions worldwide will be able to pre-download H1Z1 from the PlayStation Store.
Then, at 9am PDT (which is 5pm BST) H1Z1 servers will unlock - with players around the world able to jump in and play at the same time.
Speaking ahead of the H1Z1 launch, a rep for Daybreak said: “Starting at midnight (12AM) on May 22 in your region's local time, you will be able to pre-download H1Z1 from the PlayStation Store.
“All H1Z1 PS4 servers will unlock for play around the world at 9AM PDT on Tuesday, May 22”.
In a post on the official H1Z1 website the developers go into more detail about the upcoming open beta period.
Fans who have taken part in the closed beta need to be aware that character progress and levels will be reset at the start of open beta.
Four H1Z1 modes will be available when the open beta goes live - Combat Training, Solos, Duos, and Fives.
Unlike the closed beta, there will not be specific times that fans can play - servers will be unlocked to play all day.
DAYBREAK
And fans who are hoping to play H1Z1 on PS4 but don’t have a PS Plus membership have been given a big boost.
The H1Z1 open beta does not require a PS Plus membership in order for fans to play online.
The H1Z1 open beta for PS4 was announced last month by Daybreak.
At the time, H1Z1 producer Terrence Yee said: “H1Z1 on PS4 is true battle royale mayhem.
“We have reimagined the game for PlayStation 4 and have designed it to accentuate the essentials of battle royale that make the genre so exciting to watch and play.
“We have added key gameplay differentiators to keep the game frantic and fun -- an action shooter’s dream of fast-paced battle royale.”
