The bags are packed, travel schedules etched and the feeling of travelling together with the family or solo is no less than enthralling. Travel brings along a surfeit of reasons to be happy, to spend quality time with your children and get a break from the rut of life. However, travel vacations also pose vulnerability to your fitness goals. But worry not, follow these 5 steps to relish good food, explore new horizons and make the most of your holiday without hitting your fitness levels.
1. Hydrate
Keeping yourself hydrated at all times should be your mantra to keep a check on physical fitness as well as maintain skin health. Carry a bottle of water in your backpack and sip water through the day. Feeling thirsty is often mistaken as feeling hungry by our brain; drinking water will keep your food cravings in check.
2. Choose healthy
Try to eat healthy at the buffets or food joints. Choose cheese sandwiches (brown bread), omelets or any other variation of eggs, chicken, or fresh vegetables over donuts, cakes, and all things made of refined flour and sugar. Also, ensure you are eating curd/yogurt at least once a day, as it is a wonderful probiotic. Carry a pack of nuts in your backpack to stay full and satiated.
3. Portion Control
Treat your palate with a variety of food. Do not push yourself in saying No to just everything. However, practice portion control. Taste sin foods but do not binge. And when you indulge in food, do not forget to follow up with a detox tea.
4. Keep Dinner Light
Eat fresh salad (without dressing), seafood or lean chicken for dinner. Limit alcohol intake to get a sound sleep and wake up fresh next morning.
5. Jumpstart
Begin the day with at least a 10 minutes workout even if it means doing it in your hotel room. Also, stay active through the day, rent a bicycle or walk as much as you can to explore your travel destination like a local rather than transporting yourself in cabs.
