Bushfire burning out of control, threatening lives and homes in Augusta-Margaret River

A bushfire emergency warning has been issued for parts of the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River, about 300 kilometres south of Perth.

The warning covers people in the area bounded by Brockman Highway, Courtney Road, Payne Road and Wall Road.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) said the fire started near the intersection of Brockman Highway and Beck Road in Courtenay.

It was reported at 12.42pm.

People in the area have been urged to act immediately to survive, and be prepared to defend their homes.

Homes west of Beck Road are under threat by fire now.

If the way is clear leave now for a safer place.

Leaving at the last minute is deadly.

Spot fires are starting up to 100 metres ahead of the fire.

Fire crews from the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River are managing the blaze.
