NAVI MUMBAI: The mastermind of a gang of robbers that had struck at banks in Bokaro and Allahabad has been arrested from Nerul. Nearly Rs 34 lakh cash and 5.5kg gold ornaments, worth Rs 1.8 crore, were recovered from Hasan Khalil Shaikh (37).

Senior inspector Ashok Rajput said, "Shaikh, who hails from Jharkhand, and his gang broke open SBI's administrative building in Bokaro in Jharkhand during December 23 and 25 in 2017, when it was a three-day bank holiday. The robbers had broken open 76 lockers." The Nerul police was assisted by a team from Jharkhand police.

"Later, he committed another bank robbery in Allahabad. He came to Mumbai a month ago. Jharkhand cops had received a tip-off that he would be visiting a relative in Nerul. We kept a vigil and nabbed him. He led us to his shanty in Reay Road, where he had kept the booty," police said.
