Washington

Juan Soto, the youngest player in the majors at 19, hit a three-run homer in his first career start as the Washington Nationals defeated the San Diego Padres 10-2 on Monday.

Mark Reynolds had two solo home runs for the Nationals, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Bryce Harper had a homer and an RBI double.

Soto became the first teenager to hit a home run in a major league game since Harper on Sept. 30, 2012.

Soto's drive highlighted a five-run second inning for Washington. The promising outfielder, who played for three minor league teams this season, hit the first pitch from Robbie Erlin (1-3) over the Nationals bullpen in left-center field. Soto also singled.

Soto's homer traveled an estimated 442 feet at Nationals Park.

Called up to Washington on Sunday, Soto became the first 19-year-old to make his major league debut since Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias in 2016. He entered that game in the eighth inning as a pinch-hitter and struck out.

Phillies 3, Braves 0: Nick Pivetta struck out seven over seven innings, and Nick Williams and Aaron Altherr each homered to lead Philadelphia over Atlanta. The Phillies moved a half game behind Atlanta for first place in the NL East.

Brewers 4, D'backs 2: Travis Shaw, Domingo Santana and Lorenzo Cain each hit home runs off Zack Greinke, and Milwaukee beat Arizona. Arizona has lost five in a row and 11 of 12, scoring just 24 runs in that span.

Orioles 3, White Sox 2: Manny Machado, Adam Jones and Mark Trumbo homered, helping Andrew Cashner and Baltimore beat Chicago. Machado hit his 15th homer, moving into a tie for the major league lead with Boston's Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez.

Cardinals 6, Royals 0: Miles Mikolas pitched a four-hitter for his first career shutout and Tyler O'Neill homered for the third straight game and drove in four runs, leading St. Louis. The Cardinals won for the third time in four games.

Twins 4, Tigers 2: Logan Morrison forced in the go-ahead run with a four-pitch walk in the eighth inning after striking out in his first three at-bats, propelling Minnesota to a victory. Jose Berrios (5-4) struck out nine, giving up just three hits and two walks over eight innings.

Note: Major League Baseball extended the administrative leave of Toronto closer Roberto Osuna for a third seven-day period through May 28 as it investigates an assault charge filed against the All-Star. Osuna was put on administrative leave by MLB on May 8. The pitcher was charged with one count of assault, according to Toronto Police Constable Jenifferjit Sidhu. Osuna, who is from Mexico, is scheduled to appear in court June 18. Osuna remains on the restricted list and continues to receive his $5.3 million salary but is ineligible to play. Administrative leave is not considered discipline.
