Indore: DAVV students told to vacate hostels due to water crisis

Indore: The inmates of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) hostels are up in arms against chief warden Ajay Tiwari as he has asked to them vacate the boarding facility early this year due to water crisis. Usually, the boarders vacate hostels in first week of June but this year the university has asked them to leave early as it has become difficult to ensure interrupted water supply to them in summer.

On receiving order for vacating hostels, the inmates protested against the university’s order stating that the university charges hostel fee for 11 months so they should be allowed to stay at the boarding facility till the period for which they have been charged.

The inmates called vice-chancellor Dr Narendra Dhakad and said that if the university wanted them to vacate the hostel, it should refund fee for days they will not use the boarding facility. Dhakad asked students to talk to chief warden Ajay Tiwari over the matter. On receiving information about the hostellers’ protest, Tiwari went to meet them. He tried in vain to pacify the hostellers. Tiwari informed the hostellers that the university had asked them to vacate the hostels early because it has become difficult for it ensure uninterrupted water supply to them in summer.

When contacted, Tiwari stated that the students were asked to vacate hostels because their exams are over. “It is routine process. Inmates are asked to vacate hostels every year after their exams are over. Why so much of fuss this year, I don’t know?” he said. He, whoever, said water crisis was also the reason.
