Opening arguments will begin Tuesday at the trial of the Troy man charged with murder in connection with the death of a 1-year-old he was caring for.
On Feb. 6, 2017, David Bridges allegedly caused the death of Luka Patrick, the son of his former girlfriend Rebecca Patrick.
Patrick pleaded guilty two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors, in April 2018 and is awaiting sentencing.
The indictment alleges that both Bridges and Patrick "engaged in an injurious way toward the infant", between Dec. 14 and Feb. 6.
Bridges has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a minor. He faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
Prosecutors had previously offered him a deal of 20 years in state prison for pleading guilty to felony manslaughter. Bridges' lawyer has previously said that Patrick was responsible for physical abuse that caused the baby's death.
