Hewlett Packard Enterprise's stock up slightly on earnings beat

Hewlett Packard Enterprise shares ticked slightly higher in the extended session Tuesday after the company's quarterly results topped Wall Street targets. Hewlett Packard Enterprise shares rose 0.5% after hours, following a 0.6% decline to close the regular session at $17.41. The company reported fiscal second-quarter net income of $778 million, or 49 cents a share, compared with a loss of $612 million, or 37 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Adjusted earnings were 34 cents a share. Revenue rose to $7.47 billion from $6.81 billion in the year-ago period. Analysts surveyed by FactSet had estimated earnings of 31 cents a share on revenue of $7.39 billion. Hewlett Packard Enterprise estimates adjusted earnings of 35 cents to 39 cents a share for the third quarter and $1.40 to $1.50 a share for the year. Analysts expect earnings of 36 cents a share for the third quarter and $1.41 a share for the year.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise boosts dividend by 50%

Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. said Thursday it will raise its quarterly dividend by 50%, to 11.25 cents a share from 7.5 cents a share. The data management company's new dividend will be payable on or about July 4 to shareholders of record on June 13. Based on Wednesday's stock closing price of $17.25, the new annual dividend rate of 45 cents implies an increase in the dividend yield to 2.61% from 1.74%, compared with the implied yield for the S&P 500 of 1.96%, according to FactSet. Hewlett Packard's stock, which was still inactive in premarket trade, has run up 14.6% over the past three months, while the S&P 500 has lost 3.6%.

Tech stands to be only positive S&P 500 sector in February

Tech stocks were the one bright spot in February as the broader market got hammered and the sector was on track to be the only monthly gainer on the S&P 500 index .
