UPDATE: One of the three individuals involved in a reported malicious wounding in the 900 block of Cabell Street last week has died according to the Lynchburg Police Department.
In a news release issued Monday, police said the woman, who appeared to have suffered from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, died on May 16 the day the malicious wounding was reported.
EARLIER: A woman is in critical condition and two men were injured after a shooting in Daniel’s Hill early Wednesday morning, according to a Lynchburg Police Department news release.
Police responded to the 900 block of Cabell Street at 2:17 a.m. Wednesday for a reported malicious wounding, police said.
Officers arrived to find a 33-year-old man with a gunshot wound and a 24-year-old man “who had been reportedly pistol whipped in the face during the same incident,” police said. Both were transported to Lynchburg General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
An adult woman was located inside 900 Cabell St. with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. She was hospitalized at Lynchburg General Hospital and currently is in critical condition.
The incident was determined to be domestic in nature, police said. Officials have not identified the three people injured in the incident.
According to police, there is no threat to the public, and no additional suspects are being sought at this time.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and charges in connection with the incident have not been placed.
Arlene Martinez, who lives in the other side of a duplex from where the incident occurred, said three adults and a child live adjacent to her. According to Martinez, they moved into the rental property about a week and a half ago.
She was awoken at about 2 a.m. Wednesday by the sound of a single gunshot.
“I heard one little pop,” she said.
Martinez stepped outside her apartment to investigate and found Cabell Street empty and quiet, she said. Within minutes, police arrived on the scene and ordered everyone to exit the building with their arms up.
Frank Gowen, who lives across the street from 900 Cabell St., said he first noticed “something bad happened” when he saw a large police presence on the street at about 2:15 a.m. He said investigators still were on the scene searching the property and taking photos until about 10 a.m.
Police ask anyone with information regarding the incident contact Detective J. Tucker at (434) 455-6116 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 1-888-798-5900.
