Police are reassuring residents living near apartments in inner city Wellington that a training exercise scheduled for Tuesday is no cause for alarm.

Police will be conducting the training exercises at the Arlington Apartments, on the corner of Arlington Road and Hopper Street in Mount Cook, on Tuesday  between 8am and 4pm.

The newly rebuilt residential housing complex is empty and police said people could expect to see officers carrying firearms and to be prepared for loud noises as part of the exercise.

Police said residents could be reassured there was no cause for concern as it was a routine training exercise.
