It will quit raining.

Eventually.

Honest.

But this week's forecast is looking a lot like last week's and now the National Hurricane Center is watching a pattern of disturbed weather over the Caribbean.

Depending on what that weather system does, Central Florida could see either a wet week or a really wet week. The rainy forecast extends into Memorial Day weekend.

Monday brought the ninth straight day of rainfall in Daytona Beach, for a total of 5.99 inches so far in May, including 1.2 inches over the weekend at Daytona Beach International Airport. Rain chances range from 50 to 60 percent daily through Wednesday and then fall to 40 percent on Thursday.

The national Weather Prediction Center predicts at least another two inches of rain over the next seven days in East Central Florida, while other parts of Florida, including Southwest Florida may get widespread rainfall of up to five inches. Locally higher amounts are possible in isolated locations.

Much of the rain depends on what happens to the widespread cloudiness and upper-level low in the northwestern Caribbean Sea. Although conditions are unfavorable for development, with low chances of storm formation, some gradual development is possible later this week as the system moves into the eastern Gulf of Mexico, the Hurricane Center said.

Long range models are split on what the system could do.
