Fans accuse Anirudh Ravichander of being a copycat, Nayanthara’s Kalyana Vayasu similar to Sannan’s Don’t Lie

Young composer Anirudh Ravichander’s latest single Kalyaana Vayasu from Nayanthara’s upcoming Tamil thriller Kolamavu Kokila is a smash hit. The song has clocked 5 million views in no time and it has already been adjudged a chartbuster, turning out to be a foot-tapping number. Yogi Babu’s performance in the song happens to be another reason why audience has grown fond of this song.

While that maybe the case with the majority of audience, music lovers have taken to social media to point out how this songs is a rip-off of Sannan’s Don’t Lie. When one listens to both the songs, it’s quite surprising and in parts disappointing to know that Kalyaana Vayasu is very similar to Don’t Lie in terms of tune as well as orchestration.

Anirudh has so far not made any comments about this, so it is unclear if the rights of the original song were brought or just ‘borrowed’. In the comments section of the song Don’t Lie, several users have pointed out how Anirudh has copied the tune from this song. One of the users posted: “Anirudh. Thanks for being copy cat. We get to hear beautiful original versions. One question. Have you got copyright for this song from the true owner? Anyway, it’s nice copy and brilliant original. No hard copy feelings.” Many also commented that Anirudh’s Kalyana Vayasu brought them to Sannan’s Don’t Lie song page.

Nayanthara is rumoured to have played the role of a drug peddler in the film, which joins the long list of the actor’s female-centric movies. Directed by debutant Nelson Dilip Kumar, the film is gearing up for release soon.

It is believed to be inspired from the popular American show Breaking Bad. Apparently, Kolamavu is the colloquial word used in the film for cocaine. It’s also evident from the title poster of the film that the story does deal about drugs. Clarifying these reports, Nelson had said his film is his own work of fiction. “It’s a story about an ordinary girl in the most unexpected situation and how she fights her way out of it. We can’t make anything close to Breaking Bad because it’s really wild and we’re not prepared for such things.” The film also stars Saranya Ponvannan and Yogi Babu in important roles.
