SANTA FE, Texas (AP) The March for Our Lives movement that followed February's school shooting in Parkland, Florida, had inspired a small contingent of activists in Santa Fe, Texas, a conservative city that prides itself on its responsible gun culture.
Christina Delgado watched in horror last week as the extreme gun violence she had marched to prevent arrived in her town. A teenager opened fire at the local high school, killing 10 people in the first mass shooting since the Parkland survivors launched a nationwide movement.
Delgado described it as a "slap in the face" to fight against school shootings only to see one in her town, and issued an urgent call for reform in her gun-friendly state.
Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott pledged to convene a roundtable to discuss how to protect schoolchildren.
