Rautahat, May 20

A team led by Chief District Officer Govinda Rijal of Rautahat inspected the under-construction development projects such as roads and drainage in Rautahat today.

The projects are being implemented under the Urban Development and Building Construction Department Office, Parsa.

The team headed by CDO Rijal inspected road and drainage projects worth Rs 1.35 billion in, Gaur Municipality, Rajdevi Municipality and Yamunamai Rural Municipality of the district. The team inspected the projects after receiving complaints about use of sub-standard construction materials.

The contractor was entrusted with construction work after the government issued budget and went through the necessary tender process aiming to maintain clean, green and healthy roads and settlements.

“A large number of locals complained that the contractor had constructed the drainage by violating the road codes and destroyed their crops while carrying out construction work,” said Rabi Shankar Sah, a local of Rajdevi Municipality.

Civil Society Chairperson Jagannath Prasad Kesari drew the attention of the administration saying that all the construction was substandard due to gross negligence on the part of the contractor. He said the drainage should be demolished and reconstructed as per the codes of the Department of Road. He also demanded action against the contractor.

Urban Development and Building Construction Department Division Office Parsa Chief Suresh Wagle said that he had directed the contractor to fill the ditch along the drainage.

Meanwhile, CDO Rijal said that they found gross negligence on the part of the contractor.
