Blairstown

Patrick E. Wilhelm, 85, died Sunday, May 20, 2018, after a long, courageous battle with heart disease. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 24, at St. John Catholic Church in Blairstown with Father Craig Steimel as celebrant. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at the church with a vigil service at 8 p.m.
Patrick Edmund Wilhelm was born Dec. 24, 1932, in Manchester, Iowa, to Benjamin and Marie Westoff Wilhelm. The family moved to Blairstown, where Pat attended school, graduating from Blairstown High School. Pat also completed several auto mechanic courses. On Aug. 5, 1957, he married Charlene Frese in Norway. Pat worked at Shaull and Ullerich Chevrolet, owned Wilhelm Skelly, and managed the Benton Community School District bus barn before retiring in 1999. He was a longtime member of St. John Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending quality time with family, as well as mowing the lawn, camping and traveling. He especially liked following his grandchildren's activities and looked forward to University of Northern Iowa women's basketball games.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Charlene, Blairstown; his children and their families, son, Mike Wilhelm, Blairstown, and his daughters, Amanda (Matt) Wingerter and their daughter, Everly, and Laurel Wilhelm; daughter, Terri, and husband, Tim Dvorak, Urbandale, and their sons, Chris Dvorak and Tyler (Chelsea) Dvorak, and their children, Olivia and William; daughter, Joni, and husband, Dan Weekly, Atkins, and their children, Nathan (Liz), Alex and Madison Weekly; son, Craig (Allison), Cedar Rapids, and their children Marie, Raquel and Renee Wilhelm; son, Ben (Amy), Scottsdale, Ariz., and their children, Brenna and Ashton Wilhelm; and sisters, Betty (Bill) Sperry, Marion, Mary Jane Fisher, Blairstown, and Bernice Brecht, Norway.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Beverly; brother, Jerome; and brothers-in-law, DeWayne Fisher and Eldon Brecht.
A memorial fund has been established with memorials going to the Blairstown Ambulance, the American Heart Association and other worthy causes.
