SOUTHBURY - State Police took a man in custody Monday after a 12-hour standoff at a home on Purchase Brook Road.
The road was closed for most of the day Monday while officers with the State Police tactical unit attempted to talk the man into leaving the home. The man, who was not identified, was taken into custody around 4 p.m. without incident.
The ordeal began around 2 a.m. when police answered a call about a disturbance at the houee. When officers arrived, they found that several people had fled the residence but the unidentified suspect remained inside. The relationship between the suspect and those who left the house wasn’t immediately known Monday.
Police said they believe the man had access to a firearm but none was shown during the standoff. While authorities said there was no danger to the public, neighbors were told to stay in their homes for their own protection.
Police said the suspect was evaluated by paramedics after he was taken into custody. They did not say whether any charges would be filed.
Purchase Brook Road is located near Lake Lillinonah and George C. Waldo State Park.
