The Sinner, last summer's hit limited series, is now an anthology series and will be back for a second installment on USA this August. While the first season was based on a novel by Patricia Hammesfahr, Season 2 will be an entirely new story wherein Det. Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman) returns to his upstate New York hometown to investigate another "whydunnit." This time, an 11-year-old boy has murdered his parents for no apparent reason, but as Ambrose begins to tug at the threads, he learns about the darkness lurking not far beneath the surface of the small, rural town. Spoiler alert: there's a cult.

These two exclusive teasers capture that sense of gloom and doom Ambrose finds when he returns home. The first shows a little boy looking out the window on a rainy night at the flashing lights of a police car parked outside.

The next, even more intriguing one shows "GO HOME" scratched into the side of a car. Who should go home? Ambrose? Or the cult?

Jessica Biel, who starred in Season 1, will not appear in Season 2, though she is still involved as an executive producer. Instead the female lead will be Carrie Coon, who will be returning to the gloomy, culty upstate New York milieu of Season 1 of The Leftovers. She'll be playing Vera, the conflicted leader of a mysterious community. Her husband Tracy Letts is also joining the cast as Jack, a high school friend of Ambrose's who owns a restaurant in town. Other new cast members include The Deuce's Natalie Paul and Mindhunter's Hannah Gross.

The Sinner Season 2 premieres in August on USA.
