The Sycamore softball team wrapped up its regular season with a home sweep of Sandwich on Saturday, winning, 8-7, and 13-3.
In the opener, Amanda Swedberg, Faith Reynolds and Tiana Begay each went 2 for 4, with Begay driving in a pair of runs. Ally Versluys picked up the win for the Spartans (20-12).
In Game 2, Reynolds gave up one earned run with 13 strikeouts. She also was 2 for 4. Haley Trela had three hits and two RBIs, Mia Richards was 3 for 4 and drove in four, and Gracyn Gabriel had three hits and four RBIs.
“It was nice to send our seniors off our home field with two wins today,” Sycamore coach Jill Carpenter said. “I’m proud of the way the girls fought back in Game 1 and carried that momentum over to Game 2.”
PREP BASEBALL
Barbs beat Elgin: DeKalb will take a three-game winning streak into the postseason after a 10-9 win.
The Barbs led, 8-1, after two, but gave up eight runs in the third to fall behind. In the fourth, DeKalb took the lead on an infield single by Jackson Mertz, scoring Charles Roberts.
Mertz had two hits and Bryce Wheeler three for the Barbs. Eric Nelson pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief for the win.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
NIU wraps up season with win: The Huskies used a three-run 11th inning to pull out a 6-3 win over host Eastern Michigan.
Although the Huskies (20-36, 9-18) saw their early 2-0 lead diminish and ultimately turn into a 3-2 deficit midway through the game, they responded in a big way with a game-tying run in the sixth and three in extras.

Newport wins IESA title: Clinton-Rosette’s Riley Newport won the seventh-grade boys 1,600-meter run in the IESA Class AA State Tournament on Friday in Peoria.
Newport finished in 4 minutes, 55.53 seconds to win the crown.
