Gujarat Govt approves Rs 900 crore

Enthused by overwhelming response of ongoing water conservation campaign — Sujalam Sufalam Jal Sanchay Abhiyan-2018 (SSJA) — the Vijay Rupani Government in Gujarat decided to approve an additional Rs 900 crore project to make the State’s second biggest river Tapi pollution free.

Speaking at Surat which has been developed on the banks of Tapi River, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani announced the commencement of the ambitious project to make the river pollution free.  Rupani also initiated work on this direction to remove 18000 Metric Tonne of algae from the river.

Interestingly the water conservation campaign has begun with 517 JCB machines in collaboration with 450 organisations that include NGO’s, municipalities, municipal corporations as well as different social and religious organisations on the Gujarat’s Foundation Day on 1st May.  Now according to the Chief Minister 4000 JCP machines have been deployed on different sites and more than 2800 organisations joined hands with the State Government. 

“The campaign is currently providing employment to 3.25 lakh labourers. The campaign was started with nearly 2800 labourers 19 days ago. Perspiration of those who are working hard in scorching heat to enhance storage capacity of water would make Gujarat free from water scarcity in future,” said Rupani.

Through SSJA the State Government is aiming to scoop out 11000 cubic feet of earth from 13000 village ponds and lakes as well as 32 rivers during the month of May to enhance storage capacity of rainwater to permanently solved drinking water problem of the people in Gujarat.

With the statewide SSJA poised to become India’s biggest water conservation campaign, CM Rupani has also invited USA based Gujarati NRIs to contribute in deepening of lakes in their native villages. On Sunday he addressed a gathering of NRIs through Video Conference. He also invited US based Gujarati businessmen to participate in the ninth edition of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit to be held during 18th to 20th January 2019.
