UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, President Rahul Gandhi and others on Monday paid homage to former prime minster on his 27th death anniversary.

Priyanka Gandhi along with her husband Robert Vadra also paid tributes to the former PM at his memorial-Veer Bhumi here.

Rahul took to Twitter thanking his father (Rajiv Gandhi) for teaching him how to love and respect every one.

West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee also remembered and conveyed a message through Twitter.

"Solemnly and very fondly remembering former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary," she said.

All Ministers, legislators, and delegates of different wings of the ruling Congress were among those who paid homage to the late leader, who was assassinated this day in 1991 by a suicide bomber in neighbouring Tamil Nadu.

Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy led the Union Territory in paying rich tributes homage to Rajiv Gandhi.

On the occasion, Narayanasamy recalled the exceptional contributions Rajiv Gandhi had made to establish peaceful relations with neighbouring countries, to promote science and technology and to nurture unity.

A recipient of Bharat Ratna, Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in a suicide bombing at Chennai's Sriperumbudur on May 21, 1991.
